Operations Engineer / Plant Engineer

PJ Food Service is currently seeking an Operations Engineer.  The Operations Engineer is responsible for overseeing and participating in all aspects of preventative maintenance planning/processes, capital planning and purchasing, new equipment design, facilities layout/improvement and modification to allow the Quality Control Center to maintain operations and to improve productivity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.
- Develop and coordinate QCC System capital program. Responsible for managing QCC Operations capital budget preparation and management.  Oversee QCC contracting for maintenance, engineering and capital projects.  Review and endorse all project appropriation requests.
- Develop and maintain long-term strategic capital plan that includes equipment replacement and productivity improvement/cost savings in step with up to date industry technology and continuous improvement methodology.
- Provide leadership over process and design engineering improvement, including equipment selection, economic analysis, preparation of appropriation requests, bidding and contractor selection
- Evaluate technical feasibility of improvement opportunities and proposed product changes
- Provide technical support to QCC Operations maintenance, quality, and operations
- Lead the continued technical development of QCC Maintenance Team Leaders in an automated food manufacturing and distribution environment.
- Function as a key member on the PJFS Corporate Team leading and demonstrating Papa John’s Core values while ensuring daily business and customer service objectives are achieved.
- Provide demonstrated leadership in safety awareness and performance in QCC Operations.
- Lead and participate in System-wide cross-functional teams and task forces.
- Establish department goals and objectives in alignment with QCC Operations and Company goals.
- Evaluate and develop a preventive maintenance (“PM”)  program utilizing a CMMS system ensuring PM’s are performed safely and according to manufacturer and PJ Food Service policies.
- Lead and participate in all major repairs and capital projects as necessary.
- Coordinate contingency plans with the QC Center Leadership Teams in order to minimize operational interruptions in the event of equipment breakdowns.


FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
- Ability to effectively communicate and give direction verbally and in writing in English required.
- Must have demonstrated skills/certification in general maintenance, HVAC/refrigeration, electrical, plumbing, PLC logic, hydraulics, pneumatics, and welding.
- Bachelors degree in engineering and five years related experience
- Results orientation and demonstrated change management experience
- Data based decision-making ability
- Demonstrated experience in coaching, development, and performance management at both manager and supervisor level
- Experience in a team work environment
- Ability to engage/educate the workforce in how manufacturing plan relates to the company business approach
- Demonstrated experience in implementing a high performance maintenance organization using metrics to drive continuous improvement
- Demonstrated experience in continuous improvement leadership utilizing recognized continuous improvement processes and methodologies
- Development and experience on track for broad operations management role
- Ability to develop, manage and administer budgets
- Demonstrated organizational skills including multi- project management, planning, and tracking results against plan
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Able to work with minimal guidance on priorities including facility and company objectives
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, construction drawings, machine manuals, electrical blueprints/electrical schematics required.
- Strong technical troubleshooting skills
- Capital project business case development experience
- Demonstrated experience in developing and leading a formal preventative maintenance program. 
- Basic skill with Windows based computer systems required.
- Must be able to safely operate a forklift and manual/electric pallet jacks.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written (English)
- Continuous Improvement methodology experience preferred  (Lean Manufacturing, TQM, Six Sigma..)


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent is required. 
- College degree preferred
- Minimum five (5) years progressive management experience required, preferably in industrial/food manufacturing maintenance.
 
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Must be able to be on call 24/7.
- Travel requirement – 30%
- Must have flexibility to work all shifts as necessary.
