PROCUREMENT ENGINEER
General Summary: Develops and maintains a program for the effective management and control of the purchasing function to reduce material costs through productivity improvements with the supplier base. Evaluates supplier initiated cost reduction and quality improvement proposals. Coordinates testing/approval of the proposed alternative parts, materials or manufacturing methods.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
·Conducts and analyzes cost studies culminating in make or buy recommendations for various parts, subassemblies, materials and other items.
·Collaborates with research, engineering, production and other departments in developing products specifications and alternative materials.
·Uses Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials to leadership of analysis projects with suppliers.
·Develops and implements methods for communicating supplier-recommended cost improvement suggestions to in-house engineering--follow through to implementation.
·Uses knowledge of manufacturing processes to assist in capital equipment selection and procurement projects.
·Keeps abreast of trend data in raw material and supply prices.
·Plays an integral role in resolution of supplier quality issues.
·May participate in the negotiation of purchasing contracts.
·Compiles and analyzes statistical data to determine feasibility of buying products and to establish manufacturing costs within divisions of the organization.
·Prepares reports, charts and graphs of findings. Evaluates findings and makes recommendations to purchasing personnel regarding feasibility of manufacturing or buying needed products.
·Recommends use of alternative parts, materials or manufacturing methods to reduce costs.
·Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering or other related field and one to three year’s experience. Will consider 9-11 years of progressive, related experience in lieu of degree.
