ADMISSION AND FINANCIAL AID SPECIALIST
DEPARTMENT: Admission Office; Financial Aid Office
STARTING SALARY: $11.64 per hour
DESCRIPTION: Full Time; 1950 hours. Requires a Colorado College Typing Test. Under indirect supervision, provides customer service in the Admission and Financial Aid offices. Provides assistance for prospective admits, parents, current students and the college community regarding the financial aid process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Responsible for managing a high volume of telephone calls, electronic and print corresponence from prospective students and admits, their families and other individuals with an interest in the college as well as greeting and assisting visitors to the office. Will respond to requests for general information about the college financial aid policies and practices and will take and relay messages to the appropriate Financial Aid staff.
- Advises and counsels applicants, students and parents regarding complex rules, regulations and procedures and their application and student account status; problem solves application and student account issues. Assists with updating and maintenance of the financial aid website. Assists with office mailings.
- Provides reception coverage during the lunch breaks of other financial aid office staff.
- Develops and implement a comprehensive and continuous audit of admission and financial aid applications on a timely basis. Responsible for producing detailed reports and an action plan to move incomplete applications to a completed status.
- Train and supervise student employees responsible for supporting outreach, recruitment, admission and enrollment of American ethnic and racial populations.
- Develop, manipulate and analyze large and complex data files using spreadsheets containing sensitive information extracted from confidential records.
- Must support and contribute to the goal of achieving greater diversity at Colorado College and work effectively with the many constituencies on campus.
- Assists in promoting a culture of safety and environmental protection by working in a safe manner; immediately reporting unsafe situations and accidents; following College procedures; requesting and using appropriate protective equipment; and participating in appropriate safety training.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- High school graduate plus specialized training. Two years college/Associate’s degree preferred.
- Three years related experience in an office setting; financial aid experience preferred. Proficiency with College Board software solutions preferred.
- Finger and wrist dexterity and hand/eye coordination to perform keyboard functions. Considerable walking, prolonged standing, confined sitting, climbing of stairs, reaching and/or grasping, carrying, pushing and pulling; light physical effort (lifting up to 25 pounds). Good vision and hearing. Must be willing to work some nights and weekends as directed.
SKILLS:
- Type 50 wpm accurately. Proficient with computer software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel. Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficient in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and basic business math. Ability to think critically and solve problems. Handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion. Good judgment and customer service skills. Must be extremely organized, diplomatic, tactful and patient with a broad range of constituents. Ability to multitask, work as a team member, and possess strong leadership qualities. Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations and institutional policies
- Ability to operate standard office equipment such as personal computer, laser printer, copy machine, telephone, calculator, fax machine, etc
