Accountant / Finance Director

The Central American Resource Center (CARECEN) of Los Angeles is seeking qualified candidates for a full time Finance Director opening. The Finance Director reports directly to the Executive Director, serves as the Controller, and is responsible for the overall management of all financial matters for the organization.  Specific areas of responsibility include all aspects of financial management:  budget development and monitoring, financial reporting & planning, restricted funding compliance, cost allocation, internal controls, cash flow management, audit preparation, and tax reporting.   The Finance Director supervises an Accounting Assistant; this position is confidential and exempt.  

 

Summary of Duties:

Responsible for the overall management of fiscal matters.  Regularly monitor revenue and expenditures, and fund balances, to ensure sound financial management of organization.  Prepare monthly fiscal reports for the Executive Director, department directors, the Executive Committee and the full Board of Directors.  Close fiscal year and oversee annual audit; ensure timely filing of annual government reports including tax returns.

 

Serve as controller for agency.  Approve all accounts payable activity in accordance with Board approved budget(s).  Monitor and ensure internal financial controls for accounting department and organization as whole, including contributions collection and bank deposits. 

 

Prepare annual operating budget and other special projects budgets in consultation with the Executive Director, Development Director, and department heads. 

 

Post and reconcile account receivables and accounts payables.  Prepare timely reconciliation of all bank accounts.  Complete timely monthly closing. 

 

In accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, prepare journal entries, account reconciliation, and inter-fund schedules.  Post cash receipts

and processes invoices for payment.   Maintain and update allocation expenditure tables as staffing changes necessitate.   Prepare payroll allocations spreadsheet for posting and workers’ compensation insurance billing reports.

 

In accordance with GAAP principles, maintain proper accounting records (including sufficient documentations) of all financial transactions including vendor files, cash receipts, payroll reports, and bank accounts/reconciliation files.

 

Prepare government invoicing for reimbursement; ensure that trial balance and general ledger balance to government invoices and other restricted fund financial reports.  Serves as liaison to government funders during auditing visits and monitor and ensure compliance of contracts of restricted funding.  Prepare financial reports for submission to government and other funding sources.

 

Supervise accounting assistant.  Serve as a staff liaison to Board of Directors on finance/budget committees.
