Animal Tech IV - 08520

Examine research animals for signs of illness and communicate clinical information to clinical veterinarian, research faculty and animal personnel, with a special emphasis on equine and agricultural species. Administer prescribed medical treatments (including controlled narcotics) assist with surgery, administer anesthesia and euthanize wide range of research animal species. Inspect facilities monthly to monitor animal health, check for violations of animal welfare regulations. Demonstrate general research and clinical techniques in formal departmental training programs for new research and animal care personnel and veterinary students.
Formal training beyond a high school diploma of 1-2 years, 2 years of college coursework or Associates degree, with 4-6 years experience or equivalent combination. Associate's Degree in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited institution plus NYS Licensure preferred and/or AALAS Certification preferred. Experience in the management, husbandry, and clinical care of horses and other agriculture species preferred.
