Assistant Dean of Administration - College of Engineering - 08003
The College of Engineering at Cornell University seeks a motivated and successful leader for the position of Assistant Dean of Administration. The individual in this position reports to and serves as primary advisor to the Dean in all areas of administration and has oversight for all administrative operations of the college. Responsibilities currently include management of professional staff in finance and budget, information technology, human resources, research and graduate studies, facilities, communications and media relations, corporate and foundation relations and administrative directors in academic departments. The Assistant Dean is a member of the Dean's executive leadership team. As a College Officer the individual in this position has a leadership role within the larger Cornell community. The College of Engineering is a complex, research intensive educational organization with 650 faculty, staff, and academic staff; 12 academic departments and schools; over 1,300 graduate students and 3,000 undergraduates; a $ 266M annual budget; and 1 million nsf in facilities and operational space in on-campus buildings as well as off-campus research laboratories and educational facilities including a New York City operation. As chief operating officer of the college, the Assistant Dean of Administration will: Provide strategic development, direction and implementation of all business operations and financial policies, practices and procedures. Focus resources to meet the specific goals of the college's Strategic Plan and oversee implementation of the college's Facilities Master Plan including significant investment in new buildings. Oversee the financial management and budget of the college including more than %24119 million in annual research expenditures and an annual operating budget of %24147M.
A Master's degree in business management or a related field and 7 to 10 years experience and proven success in human resource management, facilities management, strategic planning, information technology management, and financial management and planning; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Additional relevant work experience is preferred. The ideal candidate will also possess: Prior success managing resources to deliver high quality, effective services in support of a business mission. Effective skills and proven experience in problem solving, analytical approaches to decision-making, data management, reporting and planning. Effective interpersonal communication skills and diplomacy. Demonstrated success in meeting organizational objectives through negotiation and consensus building with a wide, varied and diverse constituency. Impeccable integrity with a clear sense of ethics, fairness, and personal responsibility Experience providing effective financial management, budget preparation and fiscal operations management, preferably in higher education or the public sector. Grant and contract management experience preferred. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
