Assistant Director - Emergency Services
Drexel University seeks a qualified candidate to serve as the Assistant Director for Emergency Services within its Public Safety Office.
Reporting directly to the Director of Fire and Life Safety, the Assistant Director for Emergency Services is responsible for planning, documentation and implementation of the Drexel University and Drexel College of Medicine emergency management plan. The Assistant Director identifies potential risks, evaluates hazards, prioritizes needs, coordinates corrective action(s) and performs all duties pertaining to emergency preparedness and response in a manner, which promotes team concept and reflects the Drexel mission and philosophy.
Qualifications:
1. Position requires a minimum of a Bachelors degree in Emergency/Disaster Management, Safety, or related field.
2. Minimum of 5 years of progressive work/management experience in Emergency Management, safety or a related field. Professional certifications a plus.
3. Is knowledgeable on the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS). Knowledge of JACHO requirements desirable.
4. Demonstrated ability to manage the operations of an Emergency Operations Center.
5. Strong project management, leadership and problem solving skills.
6. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the testing of emergency response, recovery, and business resumption exercises and drills including but not limited to mass evacuations and shelter-in-place.
7. Excellent communications and writing skills are required as is the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, staff, public officials, civic and community groups.
8. Computer experience is required. Applications include MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.
9. Candidates must agree to and satisfactorily pass a comprehensive background check. The background checks will include: education verification, past work history reference checks, and a criminal records check.
10. Confidentiality statement. All candidates must be willing to sign a confidentiality statement relating to the confidentiality of sensitive University information, student records, faculty records, staff records and all information deemed confidential by the Department of Public Safety and Drexel University.
Responsibilities:
1. Develops and communicates policies, procedures, technical reports, and other emergency management materials to various levels of University management and the university community as needed.
2. Ensures that the emergency plan and all supporting documentation are current and communicates updates to all internal and external stakeholders.
3. Oversees the planning, organization, implementation and follow up of emergency preparedness tabletop exercises and actual drills.
4. Develops and delivers training and presentations on emergency preparedness, response, and recovery topics to a wide range of managers and the University community.
5. Coordinates emergency plans with city, state, and federal agencies, community officials and the local emergency planning committee in accordance with regulations of state and federal agencies.
6. Serves as the Drexel Public Safety representative on the University City Emergency Preparedness Steering Team.
7. Manages the integration and collaboration of resources and services between internal and external, public and private agencies during emergencies and disasters.
8. Is a key member of the Drexel Emergency Preparedness Team (DERT) and assists the Director of Fire & Life Safety to coordinate and manage the activities of the team.
9. Ensures that the Drexel Emergency Operation Center (EOC) and backup center meets operational needs and standards.
10. Keeps up to date with all legislation, regulations, standards, procedures, best practices and related emergency management related information.
11. Is responsive to the needs of the department 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A communication device will be provided to allow for around the clock communication
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
