Assistant Director for Information Technology in the Library

Under the supervision of the Director of Library Services, this position serves as the library organization’s principal coordinator and provider of support for the use of computer and networked information services.

 

Specific responsibilities:  Work closely and effectively with library organization and other college staff; play a lead role in the design and implementation of library and related information technologies; Provide user and operational technical support for (a) the integrated library system, (b) OCLC and related systems such as ILLiad, (c) the library organization’s Internet databases/services including a Web presence and channel on the Luminis portal; Coordinate support with Computer Services for the library organization’s systems, desktop and laptop computers, printers, and network; Coordinate and/or provide training for library organization staff on all systems and resources; Work closely with staff from Computer Services in planning, implementing and supporting the library organization’s IT needs; Establish contacts with information technology staff of VALE NJ members; participate in statewide library and related information technology development; be aware of trends and developments in library and related IT; Suggest new, relevant IT services for the library organization; coordinate staff evaluation of potential new IT services; Manage the library’s digitization projects; cooperate with others on campus in digitizing resources and providing them through an institutional digital repository; Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college/university in an area of study that has demonstrable relevance to the responsibilities of this position; Masters preferred; Experience providing operational support for library technology in a Unix and Windows computer setting; extensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, WebCT, RSS, Web authoring tools and integrated library systems, especially Sirsi; Evidence of experience in web design showing good design practices; Ability to work effectively with users who have a wide range of technical knowledge; Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
