Assistant Director of Financial Aid
Assistant Director of Financial Aid
To assist the Director of Student Financial Services in providing direction and leadership for Financial Aid staff, and manage Financial Aid with a special emphasis on compliance with federal regulations, BMC/EDMC policy and service to the students.
Key Job Elements:
• Work cohesively with ADA's in order to facilitate outstanding service to prospective students and their parents.
• Maintain Planning Load based on school need. Be available to assist with overflow appointments. Available to handle problem students/parents. Create Plans and explain the Plan and the new, continuing and re-entry student’s/parent’s rights and responsibility for each aid source. Able to develop Student Financial Plans in concert with BMC/EDMC procedures and knowledge of Federal regulations.
• Process Drops and Grads.
• Assist new, continuing and re-entry students/parents with the completion of the FAFSA, enter the FAFSA electronically and review the resulting ISIR.
• Assign the appropriate budget to a student and package the student (award their aid).
• Ensure that aid is paid to students’ accounts in a timely manner. Monitor EFT rosters. Assist with operations management of payment process.
• Responsible for complete and accurate files and paperwork.
• Complete Basic Verification/QA and C Code Requirements.
• Certify Loan Applications.
• Utilize reports as appropriate to job duties.
• Act as a resource for training Financial Aid Officers.
• Maintain consistently clean files shown through Training Assessments for Compliance with Federal/State regulations and school policies and procedures (for the entire Financial Aid Office). -Less than a 10% comment rate per term and less than a 5% potential liability rate for the year.
• Assume on-going responsibility for state awards, work study, etc.
• Able to effectively deal with all technical and compliance issues for which the director is responsible.
• Able to manage the SFS Office without a DSFS for 90 days.
• Strong Customer Service Component.
• Demonstrate proficiency in timely collections: -90% aid paid consistently by end of 5th week of term..
• Maintain consistently clean files shown through Training Assessments for Compliance with Federal/State regulations and school policies and procedures. -Less than a 10% comment rate per term and less than a 5% potential liability rate for the year.
• Perform special projects as assigned.
Position Requirements:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to work independently and make decisions based on guidelines.
• Ability to follow up, good with details, and deal with many issues concurrently.
• Previous experience working with and technical knowledge of student financial aid programs.
• High comfort level within a computerized environment.
• Ability to make small group presentations as well as interacting on a one on one basis.
• Strong verbal and communications skills and attention to detail.
