Located in Ithaca, N.Y., Cornell University is a bold, innovative and inclusive teaching and research university of academic distinction and public service where staff, faculty, and students alike are challenged to be active citizens of the world.POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Position: Animal Molecular and Quantitative Geneticist Rank: Assistant professor, 9-month academic year appointment basis, tenure track Responsibilities: This is a faculty research and teaching position. The appointee will develop a leading molecular genetics research program with primary focus on quantitative traits and/or those with complex inheritance. Research on molecular regulation of productive functions in cattle or other domestic animals is preferred. Interaction with other faculty involved in quantitative genetics, functional genomics, and molecular physiology of food animals is expected. The ability to generate external funding is essential. Teaching includes leadership of an introductory animal genetics course and the opportunity to develop an advanced or graduate course. Advising and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students is expected. As part of Cornell's $ 650 million Life Sciences initiative, an excellent start-up package will be offered. The appointee will be eligible for membership in the Center for Vertebrate Genomics and the Computational Biology program, and will have access to core facilities, large population animal breeding datasets, and seed grants.
A Ph.D. in animal molecular genetics or a related field is required. Individuals with training in quantitative genetics, postdoctoral experience, and an interest in the genetic improvement of livestock populations is preferred. Applicants must be committed to both research and teaching excellence and should be motivated to collaborate with other faculty as part of Cornell's Land Grant Mission.
