Assistant Professor of Psychology (Counseling)

The Department of Psychology of The College of Staten Island, a senior college of The City University of New York, seeks candidates for an anticipated tenure-track position in Counseling Psychology at the Assistant Professor level. The 16 person Psychology Department represents all major psychology areas and participates in a master’s in neuroscience.  We anticipate offering a new master’s degree in mental health counseling in the near future.

 

Required: Ph.D. or Psy.D. degree in Counseling, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and the ability to develop an original, independent and externally-funded program of research.  The candidate will need to be licensed or soon to qualify for licensure in New York State.  Practitioner experience is important and preferred areas of specialization include: family/immigration, child psychopathology/adolescence, anxiety disorders, grief and loss, or geriatrics. 

 

Faculty responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in general and counseling psychology, clinical supervision, publication of applied research, and department and college service. The 204-acre landscaped campus of CSI, the largest in New York City, contains an advanced, networked infrastructure to support technology-based teaching, learning, and research; a student Counseling Center; research laboratories; and excellent relations with the Staten Island mental health community.  Review of applications will begin April 1, 2008 and continue until the position is filled.  Salary range Assistant $52,144 - $67,092 commensurate with experience.
