Assistant Superintendent - Pipe Shop - 08488

Assist and supervise all work of the union trades staff who perform work on all buildings and facilities on the Cornell campus. In the absence of the Trades Superintendent, assumes management of all Pipe Shop duties. Assist the Trade Superintendent in preparing shop budgets, project schedules, and all aspects of the shop's business needs. Participate as a proactive member of the shop's management team. CUFA employees are required to attend staff development training. Uses sustainable practices and alternatives in carrying out everyday responsibilities.
Must have a minimum of seven years experience in the pipe fitting, plumbing trade or directly-related mechanical field. Must have the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Must have strong organizational, interpersonal communication and customer service skills, and possess the ability to build collaborative working relationships. Must have knowledge and understanding of EPA regulations, OSHA certifications, federal, state, city, local regulations and university codes, standards, guidelines and record-keeping requirements pertaining to plumbing/mechanical trade. Knowledge of bidding and estimating processes required. Knowledge of building mechanical and utility distribution systems and equipment required. Computer skills (including MS Excel, Word, Project, and AutoCAD or other layout software) required. Must maintain a valid NYS drivers' license. Supervisory experience in a unionized construction/maintenance setting, and experience as a superintendent with a large contracting firm preferred. Completion of an apprentice program in plumbing or related trade desirable. Associates Degree or equivalent training and job-related experience in a mechanical field desirable. Experience with maintenance, renovation and construction in an institutional setting desirable. Master plumber license desirable but not required.Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
