Position Description:
Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a small, private national university centered in science and technology, is preparing to launch the largest multi-year capital campaign in its history. An opportunity exists for an exceptional fundraising professional to join the Development and Alumni Relations team and work closely with WPI's alumni, faculty, friends, parents and students to help develop and execute the WPI Annual Fund.
Basic Function
Directly responsible for unrestricted fundraising from alumni, parents and friends as part of annual giving program.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Build and enhance the volunteer structure through class agent program for the 25th, 30th, and 35th and Reunion classes as they move through their reunion fundraising cycle. This includes recruiting, training and supporting fundraising volunteers. Maintain high level of interaction with Major Gift officers and other fundraising staff with regards to soliciting top donors in these reunion classes.
- Manage the WPI Parents Fund, including recruiting and soliciting Parents Fund Chair(s) and Committee members. In addition, prospect for leadership donors among parents. Identify opportunities for parents to engage with institution.
- Maintain appropriate records and prepare follow-up analyses and reports of fundraising efforts.
- Serve as moves manager for an assigned caseload of prospects.
- Travel as needed to identify and qualify prospects and conduct prospect and donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Actively participate in regularly scheduled major gift meetings to review the status of prospects, determine next steps and share information about top annual fund donors.
- Assist in planning and staffing of Annual Fund events, including Reunion, Homecoming, and Presidents Circle events.
- Assist in the staffing of the Annual Fund Board and President's Circle program.
- Assist in strategic and tactical planning for the Annual Fund and reaching goals.
- Mentor the Assistant Director of Annual Giving.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 2 years of experience in fundraising, higher education, or the equivalent/relevant experience.
- Experience with annual funds and face-to-face solicitation, strongly preferred.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
- Ability to work with and motivate volunteers.
- Candidates must be well organized and function well as a member of a team.
- Superior communications skills both oral and written are required.
