Associate Editor/Editor - Social Studies

RESPONSIBILITIES: Pearson Social Studies editors utilize their educational background and curriculum knowledge in combination with on-the-job training in editorial processes, project management, and instructional materials development to produce high-quality basal products for the Social Studies discipline at the primary and intermediate grades. Editorial positions require strong organizational skills, time-management skills, communication skills, and attention to details. Associate Editor - Executes assignments that meet the high quality standards for the project. Works with senior staff to learn parameters and follows established procedures and company policies. Matches state standards to relevant content in the core program. Follows guidelines and applies knowledge of standards/objectives to prepare and/or evaluate materials. Meets deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.Editor - Assists in all phases of a project with primary emphasis on writing and editing manuscripts and ensuring content accuracy. With supervision, coordinates with Design, Production, and other departments from manuscript stage to bound book. Oversees the work of freelancers and/or development houses and provides constructive feedback to Associate Editors. Formulates solutions to problems. Prepares accurate status reports on a regular basis. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate or undergraduate degree required for all editorial levels, with a focus on Social Studies subject area strongly preferred. Associate Editor level requires knowledge of education methodologies and instructional design. Editor requires a minimum of 3 years experience in curriculum development or the development of instructional materials, plus 2 years of relevant editorial experience. Teaching experience at the elementary level and/or in the Social Studies subject areas is strongly preferred at all levels. All editors must be proficient users of computers and software programs, including MS Word, Excel, and Power Point.
