General Purpose:

Operate and maintain a FACSAria multicolor flow cytometer. Consult with users on experimental design and troubleshoot outcomes. Oversee and maintain an X-irradiator, including all compliance and user training. Provide backup support for 7 FACS analyzers. Develop and implement new procedures and policies related to flow cytometry in the Yale Core facility.

 

Position Description: Set up, operate and maintain a BD FACSAria cell sorter, a highly complex instrument requiring experience, insight and judgment to operate and troubleshoot.Consult with users on technique and application development concerning fluorochrome selection, cell preparation and experimental design (planning).Work closely with users during the experiment to ensure optimal outcome, including advising; respond to requests, real-time data analysis and instrument adjustment.Develop new protocols and experimental designs for multicolor sorting and analysis.Call for service when needed and troubleshoot minor problems with machines.Provide basic training and orientation to new users.Maintain the X-irradiator in the TAC animal facility. Check daily, setup and train new users on a regular basis; ensure compliance with all rules and regulatory issues.Provide advanced training on the FACSAria to select users to allow them to operate the instrument independently.Organize and maintain all supplies, including ordering, for the Amistad Flow Facility.Enforce rules and policies concerning the use of the machine.

 

Qualifications: Master's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry or other related discipline and one year of experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.Experience with FACS sorting and analysis. Preferred: Training and experience with the BD FACSAria and the BD LSRII; completion of immunology course.
