Total Openings: 2DESCRIPTION:Under general supervision, this employee will be responsible for providing system and middleware support for the Community Cyberinfrastructure for Advanced Marine Microbial Ecology and Analysis (CAMERA) that runs over the lnternet2 backbone. Responsibilities include deploying, maintaining, and operating the CAMERA Data Grid. Incumbents in this area at this level assume various mid-to-high level responsibilities and projects as assigned. At this level the clients are typically multiple large research or infrastructure units in data-Intensive computing systems or research. The work content deals with system administration, data management application programming, and analysis tasks in advanced technology development and research settings as part of the CAMERA project. Project tasks include software system administration, creating the system software distribution for the racks, federation of information resources and end-user system administration support. The skills required include the following: experience in Oracle administration and applications programming, skills in advanced C programming (proficiency in Java would be desirable), proficiency with Linux systems, including PerI programming, knowledge and experience in database systems administration tasks, preferably advanced knowledge of key databases and operating environments such as Oracle and UNIX/Linux, and related applications development environments.The Community Cyberinfrastructure for Advanced Marine Microbial Ecology and Analysis (CAMERA) is large-scale cyberinfrastructure project established to serve the needs of the microbial ecology research community by creating a rich, distinctive data repository and a bioinformatics tools resource that will address many of the unique challenges of metagenomic analysis. The Project is funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.QUALIFICATIONS:* Bachelor or Masters Degree in computer Science or a related scientific field or a comparable combination of education and work experience.* Advanced demonstrated knowledge of a specified operating environment or database management system such as Linux/UNIX or Oracle. Expert knowledge of Structured Query Language, scripting capabilities, and advanced internal manipulations of database or operating system.
