Catalog and Metadata Librarian

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and the department of Library and Information Services invite applicants for a Catalog and Metadata Librarian (Assistant or Associate Professor).  Situated on the east side of the Mississippi River in the St. Louis Metropolitan area, SIUE is located on nearly 2,700 acres in a park-like setting. Serving approximately 13,500 students and with about 80,000 alumni, SIUE has a major impact on a region well known for affordable living and a high quality of life.

 

The Librarian performs original and complex adaptive cataloging of print and non-print materials, including electronic resources, according to national standards including DCMI.  This position develops comprehensive bibliographic descriptions, assigns subject headings and classification numbers according to Library of Congress practice, and supervises maintenance of metadata for digital resources and related holdings input into OCLC and Voyager.  The incumbent will also participate in achieving departmental and library goals and participate in library committees. 

 

Qualifications:  M.L.S. from an A.L.A. accredited library school; demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially in a production-oriented environment; experience with an automated integrated library system; and excellent communication and interpersonal skills as well as a strong service orientation.


Preferred qualifications:  Working knowledge of MARC Format for Holdings Data; experience with Voyager; experience with Dublin Core, CONTENTdm, electronic resources, serials cataloging, along with the ability to read music and foreign languages.
