 Certified Teachers wanted for children diagnosed withAutism Spectrum Disorders

 

The Carrie Brazer Center for Autism, Inc, is seeking

 (1) Certified Special Education Elementary Teacher specializing in Autism (for ages 3-12) for the 2008-09 school year for our new elementary campus at:  8790 SW 94th Street, on the Congregation Bet Breira Campus, (near Baptist hospital) in Miami.

And

 (1) Certified Special Education Teacher specializing in Autism for our Middle/High school (for ages 13-22) campus at: 7425 SW 42nd Street in Miami.

 

 

The Carrie Brazer Center for Autism’s education program provides a full day, twelve month program for students starting at the age of three. CBC has an early intervention class for young students aged 3-5, and a primary class with students aged 6-12. These classes provide intensive 1:1 behavioral intervention services; pull out therapy and social skills group training. In addition we have a transition class for young students aged 3-5 years who are being transitioned to mainstream educational placements. These students receive 3:1/5:1 intervention services.  CBC participates in a mainstream transition program with the Bet Breira school, and shares premises with that school.

With a multidisciplinary team of professionals including behavioral, Music, Speech, Occupational and Physical therapists; and Certified Special education teachers; The Carrie Brazer Center for Autism provides a wide range of learning opportunities that foster growth in all essential areas. This integrated educational and therapeutic program promotes communicative, behavioral, academic, motor, adaptive, independent living skills and social and emotional development.

 

The curriculum is highly individualized, hands on, and designed to address the specific needs of each student. Class sizes are small with high teacher to student ratio. Each classroom will have a maximum of 5:1 student to teacher ratio (up to 15 children per class). Each Teacher will have 1-2 highly trained aides with extensive experience, the program is based on the current research and best practices in the field. Teaching strategies and reinforcement methodologies are reviewed on an ongoing basis to maximize each student’s success.

 

Jewish Teachers are encouraged to apply (but not mandatory) since Shabbat and Holiday services and Judaic studies programs will be available to Jewish students. Jewish, Students will have an opportunity to mainstream with the Bet Breira Day School children in music, art and play time. Aspergers/High Functioning children will be encouraged to participate in academic classes at the Bet Breira school upon teacher recommendation.

 

Certified Middle School/High School Teacher for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Our main campus located at 7425 SW 42nd Street in Miami, serves students with moderate to severe autism for children in Middle School and High School through the age of 22. The program integrates an academic curriculum with hands on life skills training and comprehensive vocational services that will provide students with a smooth transition into the adult working world. Students begin their vocational training in the early grades, and as young adults, they may become independent workers in real job sites. The students operate their own store. They also prepare and sell food items, gift baskets and other items to the staff and other students as well as out in the community. They perform office work, postal service, and custodial jobs throughout the school. Students learn to work independently. Teacher must have 3-5 years experience working with older children/younger adults with Autism or other developmental delays.

Requirements:

Bachelors or Master’s Degree required.

Candidate must provide excellent letters of reference and transcripts.

Florida Certified in Special Education recommended, however exceptions will be made for candidates who have degrees in other areas of education with experience in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Candidate may be in the process of becoming Florida State Certified, if certified in other states or who have a 2 year letter of eligibility to teach in the state of Florida.

Elementary school teacher must have 2 years experience minimum working with younger children/younger adults with Autism or other developmental delays. Salary range 28,000-38,000

Middle school teacher must have 3-5 years experience working with older children/younger adults with Autism or other developmental delays.

The Carrie Brazer Center for Autism, Inc, is also seeking  full and part-time camp counselors, teachers and teachers aides, behavior, physical, occupational, and speech therapists for the summer camp program and for the fall 2008-9 school year.Prospective candidates will demonstrate patience and compassion with children with moderate to severe autism and other developmental delays.  Qualified applicants who are highly motivated individuals can be trained to work with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). We only ask that you use energy, excitement and enthusiasm to engage the children and inspire a continuous love of learning and interaction on a daily basis.  Candidate must be prepared to be active, work outside in the sun and participate in weekly outings that include: swimming in the pools, sailing, bowling, swimming at the beach, skating and more.  

 

Experience with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders preferred.

Bus Driver

The Center is also seeking a part-time bus driver to transport children to and from school.
