About the Job:

The Chief Learning Officer will enhance and implement the evidenced-based pedagogy of the ePals platform. The Chief Learning Officer will be committed to scholarship and curriculum design, have practical experience in online learning (for adults and children) and building online learning communities.  The Chief Learning Officer will actively collaborate with other ePals team members to ensure that the online environment contains state-of-the-art educational content, meaningful collaborative opportunities, learning experiences, and assessment processes that develop the high-level reading, writing, and thinking skills required to learn deeply in the content areas.  The Chief Learning Officer will also lead the ongoing effort to maintain and demonstrate the continuing efficacy of the platform through ongoing scientifically based research studies.

 


Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

§ Build and lead the education department.

§ Ensure that ePals meets the intellectual, collaborative and resource needs of busy, serious teachers and students.

§ Create or source a library of outstanding examples of teacher practice, such as video examples, podcasts, blogs, online activities, and lesson plans.

§ Develop or partner with state-of-the art online learning environments for both school and home markets, consistent with research-based practices and project-based learning.

§ Attract other communities of practice, e.g., Bread Loaf, Teach For America, Schools Attuned, National Board Certified Teachers, etc. to share their expertise with the ePals community members.

§ Work with the Product & Creative Services team and the Technology Department to understand technical and business requirements and recommend viable solutions and curricular best practices for both home and school markets.

§ Understand instructional technology trends and relevant research, including best practices that have demonstrated significant positive impact on individual student achievement.

§ Oversee the design and implementation of ongoing efficacy research

§ Oversee the design of templates which will enable users to easily contribute content and the design of a method for vetting the content

§ Seek federal funding for ePals’ efforts in Ell, Title I, eMentoring, etc.

 

Background Expected:

§ A passion for making high quality learning experiences and resources available to all

§ A commitment to global community and global learning

§ Experience with online instruction for elementary school students and teachers

§ Experience implementing project-based learning or other child-centered immersive learning experiences

§ Experience with integrating technology into education for both adults and children

§ Demonstrated strength in written and multimedia communication

§ Proven record of success with management and product delivery

§ Experience building and working with teams

§ 10+ years experience in K-8 education

§ Graduate degree in educational curriculum, with an emphasis in language/literacy

§ Experience with English Language Learners and Title 1 preferred
