Child Care Teachers - Infant through Preschool and Spanish Teacher
The Young School: Nurturing Young Hearts and Minds
The Young School, located on Tamar Drive in Columbia, Maryland, has immediate needs for enthusiastic Full time Preschool Teachers, Infant Teachers, Infant and Toddler Floaters, Full and Part Time (1pm-6pm) Preschool Floaters. Our teachers are expected to be fully contributing partners with the co-teacher in their classroom. We are looking for candidates that have high standards and believe that the care and education they provide is invaluable.
Preschool teacher duties include planning developmentally appropriate activities while implementing the MSDE Preschool curriculum and incorporating the Reggio philosophy, continuously keeping observations and assessments of student progress, performing caregiving duties and completing daily reporting to parents. Infant and toddler teachers are responsible for implementing the RIE philosophy of infant care. Teachers will observe children and document their developmental milestones and achievements communicate daily with parents through written and verbal reports and plan activities that engage infants’ natural curiosity about their world. Most importantly, teachers create a nurturing and comforting environment where children develop a lifelong confidence and desire to explore their world, while creating a partnership with parents for support the child through their preschool years.
Teacher Qualifications:
× Senior Staff certification, including 45 hrs of child development and 45 hrs of materials and curriculum
× Infant/Toddler training preferred, but not required
× Prior childcare experience, one year minimum
× Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice
× Nurturing, calm personality
× Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
× MUST be a team player
TYS is also looking for a Spanish Teacher to teach basic Spanish vocabulary, games, songs, stories, etc. and create center activities for children ages 2-5. A solid knowledge of the Spanish language is required and experience working with young children is preferred. Part time versus full time hours are negotiable.
