Construction Manager - 08474

The Manager of Projects (MOP) provides leadership in a team-oriented participative management environment for the execution of university Capital Construction projects for the contract colleges. This is a five year term position. The MOP plays a critical role in the design process and is responsible for the day-to-day execution of the construction phase of capital projects. During the project design phase, participates in the development and design of projects; reviews designs for constructability and leads the construction cost estimating process; assists in the preparation of front-end bid documents including modifications to Cornell's General Requirements and other project-specific bid documents in compliance with University and State requirements; participates in development of construction procurement strategy, contractor and sub contractor selection, and construction contract procurement process. During the construction phase the MOP serves as single point of contact for the construction contract and is responsible for all construction administration activities. The position is responsible for establishing and maintaining a relationship with the general and sub contractors such that the construction work is executed according the provisions of the contract documents and according to professional and ethical standards. The position will develop and maintain effective working relationships with project stakeholders, and will have a high degree of accountability with regard to the relationship key stakeholders: customers, university administrators, staff, colleagues, and external agencies. External agencies shall include but not be limited to the State University Construction Fund (SUCF), NYS Department of Labor, design professionals, construction professionals, and municipal agencies.
Our ideal candidate will have: Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or relevant field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience in commercial and institutional construction is required, especially from the perspective of managing the entire project rather than a single element of the project. 7-10 years in a position related to construction, construction supervision, or construction management required, with at least 5years in a management/supervisory position. Managerial and leadership experience is required. Ability to manage multiple, complex and often interdependent projects with varying scope and multiple stages of completion. Experience in major (gt;$ 10M) projects in a significant leadership role is required. Ability to drive projects to successful conclusion in a politically sensitive manner. Ability to anticipate problems and minimize negative impacts on campus/college/unit/department. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to build interpersonal relationships. Effective organizational skills. Experience on a University campus is preferred. Experience in the administrative side of construction is preferred. Knowledge of or experience with SUCF processes is preferred. Proficiency with electronic project scheduling software is preferred.Relocation assistance may be provided for this position.
