Performance Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Criminal Justice Training Center Dean/Director, the Center Coordinator will provide coordination of activities and administrative support for the daily operation and management of all programs offered by the Center including courses and training certified by the Commission on Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST); assist in the planning, organization, and implementation of activities and procedures to fulfill and enhance the mission of the Criminal Justice Training Center; and to perform related work as required.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
a. Provide training, direction, and supervision to Center personnel.
b. Assist the Director in ensuring compliance with POST training mandates, Golden West College and Criminal Justice Training Center rules and regulations as well as State and Federal laws as they concern the operation of a regional criminal justice training center.
c. Assist in the preparation of required POST, college/district reports, accreditation/certification materials, and program review.
d. Maintain effective positive relations with the campus community, community based organizations and all governmental and criminal justice system agencies.
e. Provide leadership consistent with the ethics, values, mission, and goals of the College and the Criminal Justice Training Center.
f. Recommend and implement techniques to improve Center policies and practices, increase efficiency, seek professional development opportunities, and endeavor to stay current on trends and practices in the field of criminal justice system management, training and education.
g. Assist with the coordination of strictly confidential POST testing materials and maintain student records in accordance with law and regulations.
h. Coordinate the instructional schedules for instructors and training advisors for each academy presentation.
i. Maintain complete and accurate training, attendance, progress, and discipline records on each academy class and student.
j. Facilitate recruitment and hiring of academy students by coordinating with appropriate governmental agencies.
k. Communicate regularly with the Director on all matters concerning student progress and welfare.
l. Attend campus meetings and meetings throughout LA/OC region on regular basis and occasionally travel to various other locations in the state as needed.
Knowledge of:
1. Budgetary methods and procedures, and techniques of cost analysis.
2. Preparation of reports and proposals.
3. Principles of goal setting, organizational assessment and evaluation.
4. Police organizations, rank structure, and the criminal justice system.
5. Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training especially as it relates to standards compliance, training certification and delivery.
6. Principles of supervision, leadership, ethics, community policing and personal/organizational development.
7. District, College and Center policies and procedures.
Ability to:
8. Plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate the work of Center personnel.
9. Interact effectively with faculty, staff and professional experts to identify and resolve problems.
10. Conduct staff studies and prepare findings in a comprehensive written report.
11. Interact positively with diverse campus groups and individuals to include instructors, staff, students, and representatives of related governmental agencies.
12. Adhere to District, College and Center rules, regulations, and policies.
13. Work as a successful team member committed to the mission of the College and Center.
14. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
15. Maintain accurate records and logs.
16. Possess a valid and appropriate California Driver's License; operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
Faculty/Educational Administrators complete the Equivalency Application only if you do not meet the minimum qualifications for the position you are applying to, and you wish to be considered.
1. Must meet one of the following qualifications under (a) through (c):
a. Possess the California Community College Credential authorizing administrative service at the community college level.
b. Possess a Master's degree from an accredited institution AND one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's administrative assignment.
c. A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to the above. Candidates making application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required materials.
2. Hold or qualify to hold, a Management Certificate as issued by the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training.
3. Graduate of the FBI National Academy and/or the California Law Enforcement Command College.
Desired Qualifications
1. Three years full-time experience as a police manager/administrator at a California criminal justice agency.
2. Experience in counseling and evaluating field officers, support staff and supervisors.
3. Experience as a departmental training manager.

Pay Philosophy
Starting salaries for management and supervisory positions are based on a combination of education, qualifications and experience. Initial placement is within the starting salary range. Further advancements are based on initial salary placement.

Work Schedule
The normal hours of work will be arranged between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Benefits:
The District provides a comprehensive benefits program effective the first calendar day of the month following the first day of regular employment. A variety of medical plans covering employees and their dependents are available, with the District paying the major portion of the cost. In addition, the employees are offered fully paid Dental, Vision, Life, and Income Protection coverage. Available to eligible dependents are fully paid Dental and Vision coverage, with medical and Life coverage available at a nominal cost. Employees and their eligible dependents may participate in Optional Group Life Plans at their own expense. Other liberal benefits include, on an annual basis: 22 days of vacation; and 12 days of sick leave. Employees participate in State Teacher's Retirement System.
