Brief Description:
The initial assignment will be at OXNARD COLLEGE.
All academic employees are subject to assignment in any college of the District depending upon staffing needs as defined within the terms of the VCCCD/AFT Agreement. Nontraditional assignments such as evening, weekend, or off-site assignments may be made with consent of faculty member, management or when special conditions exist on a campus as defined within the terms of the VCCCD/AFT agreement.
Under the direction of the Dean of Student Services, responsible for the organization and operation of the CalWORKS program, develops college programs to deliver training and experience necessary to secure employment for program students. Develops budgets, reports, and records case management activities with stakeholders within the college and the county, and provides bilingual counseling services to students in the CalWORKS program.
The District seeks candidates who exhibit sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse student population. Our students have varying academic skills; they come from a wide range of social, economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds; some have physical or learning disabilities; many are re-entry students. We seek a candidate who will enjoy the challenge of discovering the needs of students and then helping them learn the skills required for success in college and in the world beyond. Preferred applicants will have experience in/or demonstrated abilities to work with technology, secure grants and other outside funding and interact with the community.
SALARY AND EXPERIENCE
Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and experience in placement on the District salary schedule. Contract is based on an 11 month year to begin with the fall semester 2008. Fringe benefits include family medical, dental and vision insurance plans. Maximum credit for prior experience is 7 years.
Job Duties:
Provide academic, personal, and vocational counseling E
Plan individual training plans in conjunction with CalWORKS objectives and regulations E
Assist CalWORKS students with intake procedures, program eligibility, and registration E
Explain and interpret program regulations and assessment results to program students E
Develop and implement program orientation, workshops, and classes E
Assess student eligibility for support services and make referrals as appropriate E
Provide financial aid information and assistance E
Gather, compile analyze, and report on student retention and outcome data E
Maintain current and accurate records of counseling sessions E
Provide outreach, recruitment, and follow-up with program students. E
Develop marketing materials to promote training and employment for CalWORKS students

Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated bilingual (verbal and written) English/Spanish language skills
Master's degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in counseling from an accredited college or university; OR
Possession of a master's degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in a discipline reasonably related to the faculty member's assignment from an accredited college or university and possession of a bachelor's degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in the discipline of the faculty member's assignment; OR
Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university plus Marriage, Family, and Child Counselor professional licensure or certification.

Possession of a Community College Counselor credential

Candidates not possessing the minimum qualifications as stated above, must complete the supplemental questionnaire and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above.
All course work must be from a regionally accredited college or university.

Ability To:
Monitor academic progress
Provide a case management approach to qualified continuing and referred CalWORKS students
Facilitate group learning by engaging students
Counsel and advise students using appropriate techniques and procedures
Impart college survival skills
Identify skills sets needed for employment and/or transfer to four-year institutions

Salary Range: $43,408- $91,156

Starting Salary:
New employees may request salary placement above step one based on directly related experience which exceeds the minimum qualifications for the classification. Advanced salary placement must be requested at the time of offer and is subject to verification of qualifying experience and applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements and/or Personnel Commission Rules. $43,408 - $75,963
