Data Warehouse ETL Developer

Primary Purpose

 

Provides support and development in all aspects of the design, mapping, development, scripting and testing of data movement for the Region 10 EMPOWER Educational Data Warehouse (EEDW) environment, with emphasis on the Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) process.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Education/Certifications

¨  High School diploma (College degree and /or technical certificate preferred)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

¨  Proficient skill with a major SQL database engine (preferably Oracle) and SQL scripting.

¨  Knowledge of design and development in solutions moving data from data marts to data warehouses.

¨  Proven ability to proactively identify and quickly respond to problems in database processes producing alternatives, and implementing solutions.

¨  Knowledge of large scale data warehousing methodologies.

¨  Knowledge of the Kimball based star schema implementations and in the technical aspects of metadata modeling preferred.

¨  ETL expertise using DecisionStream/Data Manager preferred. Will train the right candidate.

¨  Basic Knowledge of Cognos Business Intelligence (BI) tools or other equivalent BI software.

¨  Basic Knowledge of Wide Area Networks / IP Networking

 

Experience

¨  One to three years of extensive ETL Development preferred. Willing to train the right candidate with substantial SQL experience.

 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties

 

Support

¨  Performs project specific data analysis that includes analyzing and mapping required data and supporting all facets of the ETL process.

¨  Creating and maintaining Data Warehouse Extract Transform and Load (ETL) Processes using Cognos Data Manager.

¨  Documenting proposed ETL processes with Logical Data Flow Diagrams.

¨  Creating, expanding, and optimizing ETL jobs based on specifications driven by changing business requirements.

¨  Writing Database Procedures, Functions and Views to optimize the ETL processes.

¨  Assist the Region10 EEDW Team as available.

¨  Delivery of high quality data to the Region 10 EEDW.

¨  Other duties as may be assigned by the Assistant Information Director or the CIO.

¨  Computer workstation running Windows 2000, XP, VISTA or Linux

¨  Cognos Data Manager

¨  SQL, DTS, FTP, and various scripting languages

¨  Internet Explorer

¨  Microsoft Office Suite
