Dean of Mathematics, Science, Business & Technology

GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Dean provides strategic leadership and direction for the Mathematics, Science, Business and Technology area’s departments, programs and certificates including Business Department (Business Administration, Information Technology, Insurance, Paralegal, Real Estate and Hospitality/Zammer Institute); Natural Science, Construction and Environmental Technology Department (Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics, Horticulture, Construction, Environmental Technology, Clean Energy and Sustainability); Mathematics Department (Computer Science and Mathematics).  In addition, the Dean provides leadership for the Math Learning Resource Center, Advanced Studies, 2+2 and the Cape and Islands Tech Prep Consortium.

 

The Dean is responsible for providing leadership and support to the full and part-time faculty and staff assigned to the area; overseeing external accreditation and periodic internal program review; encouraging and developing excellence in teaching and curriculum development; supporting the use of technology and innovative pedagogy to improve student learning and success; monitoring local, regional and national trends to ensure programs meet workforce and public needs; implementing College administrative and academic policies; implementing collective bargaining provisions; developing the academic schedule; developing and executing divisional and area budgets; and interfacing with partner institutional leadership in the creation, delivery and evaluation of extended study programs and services.



 

QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

 Masters degree from an accredited institution. Significant postsecondary administrative experience minimally at the director, department chair or program coordinator level. Experience in developing cutting edge, academically sound and industry responsive programs of instruction.  Experience in curriculum development and the use of outcomes assessment to drive curricular innovation and improvement.Understanding of the issues related to instructional applications of information technology including multimedia, web-based enhancements, and e-learning. Classroom teaching experience.Experience working with diverse populations in a multi-cultural academic setting.Demonstrated commitment to the comprehensive community college mission.
