Brief Description:
The Dean of Mathematics, Science, Health and Athletics works under the administrative direction of the Executive Vice President for Student Learning and is responsible for the overall design, organization, delivery, supervision, evaluation, and fiscal management of the following areas: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geography, Geology, Health Education, Mathematics, Marine Studies, Physics, and Physical Education/Athletics.
Job Duties:
Develop, direct, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate the programs, personnel, operations, and activities of their respective divisions, including program planning, analysis, and review to ensure compliance with Education Code, state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, District policies, and all contractual agreements between the Governing Board and recognized bargaining units.
Assist in the recruitment, selection, and development of classified and academic personnel within the supervised units, and evaluate all personnel reporting directly to them in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
Supervise the preparation and submission of their respective division's budget and, upon its approval, assume overall responsibility for its timely and accurate implementation.
Seek maximum governmental and alternative funding for assigned programs and services, as well as for new initiatives.
Keep abreast of emerging services, methodologies, and technologies relevant to their respective divisions.
Serve as a catalyst in formulating and implementing their respective division's goals and objectives, in accordance with the strategic planning process.
Prepare timely, accurate, and comprehensive responses to all required state, federal, and other reports.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a Master's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university and one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prefer experience in one of the academic areas to be supervised.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Three letters of recommendation are recommended, not required.
Applications will be screened by a diverse District selection committee. The initial interview will be conducted by the same committee. The final interview will be conducted by the college President.
APPOINTMENTS
The candidate selected will be recommended by the Chancellor to the Governing Board for final approval.

Salary Range:
$8,161 - $10,937

New employees may request salary placement above step one based on directly related experience which exceeds the minimum qualifications for the classification.
