Performance Responsibilities 

Under the direction of the Dean, the Director will plan, develop, implement, and manage the college's Art Gallery and Young Artist Gallery. The Director will coordinate the programs in the area of responsibility to achieve the mission and goals of the college for the Arts Pavilion. 




EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: 

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

a. Plan, organize, and facilitate all Art Gallery exhibitions. 

b. Coordinate the exhibitions and educational programs in the Young Artist Gallery. 

c. Serve as the primary liaison with exhibiting artists, art educators, art professionals, lenders and potential lenders, curators and other gallery directors throughout California and the United States. 

d. Secure necessary support for the Arts Pavilion programs and services in the college and District planning process. 

e. Supervise and coordinate the activities of volunteers, students, and staff involved in Art Gallery exhibitions. 

f. Receive and handle inquiries form a variety of clients. 

g. Speak to the general public and select interest groups in promoting ideas, program plans, and support for the visual and performing arts programs including interdisciplinary fields. 

h. Work with the college Publications and Foundation departments on advertising, publicity, and fundraising for the Arts Pavilion. 

i. Produce and host public artists, events, and receptions. 

j. Promote the Arts Pavilion programs and activities with campus art students, faculty and staff. 

k. Implement annual fundraising plan and ongoing fundraising efforts including grant writing and other development activities. 

l. Develop, manage, and track budgets for the Art Gallery and Young Artist Gallery. 

m. Develop and promote awareness and support for the Arts Pavilion programs both on campus and in the community. 

n. Manage and report all records, correspondence, and administrative clearance for college and Board approvals. 

o. Attend Visual and Performing Arts Division meetings when invited. 

p. Attend Art Pavilion functions and orchestrate weekend activities.

q. Perform other related duties as required.  







Minimum Qualifications: 




Faculty/Educational Administrators complete the Equivalency Application only if you do not meet the minimum qualifications for the position you are applying to, and you wish to be considered. 




Knowledge of: 

1.Principles and practices of Art Gallery management, including planning and development. 

2.Management principles and techniques. 

3.Principles and practices of supervision, training, and evaluation. 

4.Principles of budget development and management. 

5.Modern office procedures, practices, and technology, including applicable software. 




Ability to: 

6.Direct the Arts Pavilion activities, programs, and operations in concert with the administrator and division faculty and staff. 

7.Work with the college Publications and Foundation departments to advertise, publicize, and raise funds for the Art Pavilion. 

8.Prepare, maintain, and reconcile all departmental budgets including grant funding resources. 

9.Represent the Art Pavilion through meeting attendance at the college, District, professional organizations, community agencies, donors patrons, and program supporters. 

10.Prepare and submit required reports to meet college, state, and federal requirements as necessary. 

11.Identify and procure community funding sources in support of the Arts Pavilion programs and services. 

12.Prepare and submit external grant proposals in support of the Arts Pavilion programs and services. 

13.Provide leadership for the Arts Pavilion programs and services.

14.Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 

15.Make effective presentations. 

16.Develop effective relationships with those contacted in the course of employment. 




Education and Experience: 

17.Completion of a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts or Art History. 

18.Two years of management experience in an art gallery or comparable facility. 

19.Or, a combination of education and experience that would provide the required qualifications.  




Desired Qualifications 

1. Two or more years experience as a gallery director. 

2. Two or more years experience as a curator. 

3. Two or more years experience in education program development. 

4. Knowledge of historical and contemporary trends in art exhibition. 

5. Knowledge or experience in art education for college and pre-college students. 

6. Evidence of active involvement in art exhibition and the art community. 

7. Demonstrated fund raising skills. 

8. Demonstrated knowledge of children?s illustration and storytelling. 

9. Computer experience with a variety of computer applications. 

10. A record of publication experience. 

11. Effective communication skills both oral and written.  







Conditions of Employment 

This is a regular, full time, 12-month per year classified management position. The normal hours of work will be 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.

Salary Range $77,782.58 - $102,450.84 

Salary Range G-24 

Based on the 2007/2008 Salary Schedule  




Pay Philosophy 

Starting salaries for management and supervisory positions are based on a combination of education, qualifications and experience. Initial placement is within the starting salary range. Further advancements are based on initial salary placement.

Work Schedule 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; Monday through Friday  




Benefits: 

The District provides a comprehensive benefits program. A variety of Medical Plans covering employees are available, with the District paying the major portion of the cost. In addition, the employees are offered fully paid Dental, Vision, Life, and Income Protection coverages. Available to eligible dependents are fully paid Dental and Vision coverages, with Medical and Life coverages available at a nominal cost. Employees and their eligible dependents may also participate in Optional Group Life Plans at their own expense. Other liberal benefits include, on an annual basis: 22 days of vacation, 12 days sick leave; 12 days average holidays. Employees participate in both the Public Retirement System and Social Security.
