Director, Internal Transfer Division - 08493

Required QualificationsBachelor's degree with 3-5 years experience or equivalent combination in advising, counseling, psychology, or a discipline related to the academic advisement of college students. Firm academic background in the study of adolescent/young adult psychology and development. Firm understanding of the structure of Cornell is required. Strong communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to influence and persuade. Able to manage occasional situations where students may be in distress and/or crisis; make appropriate referrals to other university offices, as needed. Able to use discretion and be willing to compromise in dealing with the colleges in discussions and implementation of policies related to internal transfer. Must also be creative in working within Cornell's decentralized system to develop innovative solutions to problems. Minimum of three years of academic advising experience of undergraduates at Cornell is essential. In-depth knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Facility with standard desktop productivity tools, e.g., MS Word, Excel, etc. Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree strongly preferred. Minimum of five years of academic advising in an undergraduate unit at Cornell. Understanding of PeopleSoft student information system preferred. Knowledge of Faculty Advisor system helpful. No relocation assistance is provided for this position.
