Director of Advising and Counseling
Orange County Community College is a fully accredited community college with approximately 6,000 students and off-site centers in Orange County, NY, 70 miles north of New York City and 90 miles south of Albany.
We are seeking a seasoned professional to provide vision, leadership, and managerial oversight for the college’s Advising and Counseling Center. The Center serves the academic advising and counseling needs of approximately 6,500 new and continuing degree-seeking students each semester at both campuses. In addition, the Advising and Counseling staff organizes classes (college success, study skills, adult re-entry), college transfer days, and spearheads Tel-Rapp and Early Alert, and the telephone outreach to at-risk students. The Director, working in collaboration with department chairs, academic vice presidents, and reporting to the AVP for Enrollment Management, has primary responsibility for the development of academic advising models (individual, small group, in-person, and online) for all students to ensure that their academic needs are met. As a member of the Enrollment Management team, the Director works closely with the Director of Admissions, the Registrar, and Student Services staff to design and implement advising/registration models appropriate for new students and to initiate retention efforts. The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students, faculty, and staff in and outside the college is key in this role.
