Director of Marketing & Communications
Higher Education OfficerLaGuardia is seeking an experienced professional, with multi-faceted marketing and communications skills. Given the size and complexity of the College, the ideal candidate will have the ability to think strategically and creatively. The Director of Marketing & Communications will have primary responsibility for building a strategic communications program and increasing public awareness of LaGuardia Community College. S/he will lead the development of marketing and educational materials for the College as a whole and for various divisions and programs. The Director will lead planning efforts for marketing the college most effectively using community outreach, paid advertising, special events and promotional activities. S/he will work with the leaders of all departments in the college, including academic affairs, student recruitment, adult education, economic development and the theatre, to develop strategic plans for increasing target market awareness of LaGuardia's services and activities. Day-to day responsibilities include promoting positive media coverage of the College; responding to inquiries from print, TV, radio and other media; and supervising production of marketing materials for the College. This senior level position reports to the Vice President for External and Community Affairs. The Director will supervise staff to and consultants for the Marketing and Communications Department. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Overseeing marketing strategies and college communications activities on behalf of the college including: External communications and systems. Internal communications and systems. Public relations efforts. External vendors and consultants. - Taking the lead role in designing, implementing, and facilitating a community education and marketing plan for the College, and its programs. This includes demonstrated experience in multi-lingual and multi-ethnic communication. - Developing, advocating for and administering the College's marketing budget. - Overseeing the college's electronic marketing efforts including collaboration with Information Technology regarding Web site design and content.Requirements: The qualified candidate must have a minimum of a BA degree in a relevant discipline and (8) eight years marketing/communications experience including four years in a supervisory role. The candidate must also have excellent writing/communications skills. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working for educational organizations; with broad communications experience; and /or demonstrated experience designing marketing/communications strategies that reach new audiences, including multi-ethnic and cultural populations.
