Director of Membership
The College Board, a national educational organization, is searching for a Director of Membership who will be responsible for managing all aspects of application for membership and for member records for the College Board’s 5,400 institutional members and 15,000 delegates. This position reports to the Vice President for Membership and is resident at College Board headquarters in New York City.
The Director plans, develops and oversees delivery of member services that engage delegates, meet their needs and that involve them in the work of the College Board. The Director supports regional member recruitment activities, is accountable for updating, maintaining, and owning the College Board’s membership and meeting databases, and regularly reports on membership news. The Director assists with plans for growth and retention, devises and implements opportunities for continued delegate involvement, and identifies opportunities for delegates to act as informed emissaries to promote the mission of the Board.
Key responsibilities include the following:
· Develops and oversees annual membership recruitment and retention activities.
· Oversees application processes, reporting, database development and management, and customer service.
· Develops and recommends dues pricing policies and manages procedures for dues collections.
· Commissions regular qualitative and quantitative surveys to ascertain delegate knowledge and satisfaction with the College Board, and to identify potential new services.
· Develops member-specific electronic and print materials, contributes member news regularly to organization newsletters and publications, and provides guidance on web presence and services.
· Works regularly with program and regional staff to identify programs that provide meaningful delegate and member-specific benefits, e.g. advocacy training.
· Provides strategic direction on use of iMIS membership and meeting database, leveraging functional capacity with business requirements to ensure optimal use of the application.
· Business ownership of the iMIS/iON/OLR applications and works with IT staff to effectively plan, design, test, and implement necessary enhancement projects.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
A Bachelor’s Degree plus 5 to 7 years of relevant work experience in a managerial role in a membership association or similar environment. Project management and staff supervisory experience are required. A Master’s Degree or Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation are preferred. Knowledge of association management and member service product development. An understanding of secondary or higher education environments is highly preferred.
