Director of Product Management
OVERVIEWThe Director of Product Management is responsible for understanding the needs of our customers, market trends and the competitive landscape of the software training industry. They will drive product concepts and feature requirements based on customer needs, and evaluate and prioritize these requirements to develop a product roadmap that differentiates us from our competitors.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESMarket Research and Product Definition· Evaluate market needs through market research, segmentation and sizing activities such as meeting with customers, conducting surveys, competitive analysis, attending and representing the company at industry events, etc.· Develop and refine new and existing products and features that continually leap-frog and differentiate our offerings from those of our competitors.· Develop and maintain external relationships with software vendors to understand their respective software product plans as well as their broad and vertical training needs.Strategy and Planning· Define and refine a product roadmap that addresses the training needs of our existing and future customers.· Author product and feature requirements documents.· Lead a cross-functional team to bring new products and features to market.· Manage all aspects of product lifecycles including product pricing, distribution, aggregation, retirement, etc.Cross Functional Collaboration· Support the Marketing team to develop product positioning, go-to-market strategy, messaging and product launches.· Work with Web Development to define and prioritize tasks for continuously enhancing the user experience, feature set and functionality of the Online Training Library.· Communicate product priorities to Product Development.· Partner with Business Development to assess how/if potential new partnership opportunities fit into our overall product strategy.· Support Customer Service and Sales with product positioning and feature benefits information.· Engage Technical Support and Customer Service to understand direct customer feedback to modify and improve our products and services accordingly.Staffing· Perform all functions of staff management and mentoring of department employees such as the hiring, training, career planning, and other HR-related functions of product management staff, author acquisition staff.· Appraising performance and setting performance goals for department employees.EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONSExperience· 5+ years of product management experience, specifically understanding customer needs and building innovative products and solutions to address them. Prior experience in software product management preferred.· In-depth understanding of the creative community, with the ability to describe their workflows and training needs.· In-depth understanding of the global technology landscape, the software industry and the broad market opportunities for software training.· Business management, pricing, sales and marketing knowledge and experience highly valued.· Must have a strong track record of successfully bringing products to market by working with cross functional teams.· Demonstrated success working with geographically dispersed teams.Skills· Prioritizes work activities, using time efficiently; develops realistic action plans.· Excellent research and analysis skills; ability to analyze market data to make product recommendations and strategies.· Ability to drive short term actions which are consistent with long term goals.· Ability to convert business plans into actionable plans with demonstrable and measurable results.· Must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.· In addition to these skills, this person must have a progressive employment history that demonstrably shows growth in “accomplishments achieved” and “responsibilities given”.Personal Traits· Superior work ethic and accountability.· A true passion for leading, managing, and working in the software and software training industry.· Innovative, passionate, creative.· Customer focused and user driven.
