Director of Student Services
The Director of Student Services is responsible for the management of all related services critical to the personal, social, and academic development of the student body in all matters relating to student life while attending Westwood College. The Director organizes supervises, and directs the activities of Student Services staff and is responsible for assisting, designing, and implementing programs that foster student retention and success including orientation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Assists in the enrollment and registration of incoming, returning, and on-going students. 2. Develops and implements creative methods to retain students. 3. Conducts new student orientation. 4. Provide opportunities for awards programs and tutoring services 5. Regularly monitors student attendance and progress 6. Organizes and prepares for weekly student tracking meeting 7. Maintains communication with all students at risk; works with these students to address any issues that may impede their academic progress 8. Verifies all student files are complete and ready for transfer to the Educations Department after the start of each new term according to accreditation standards. 9. Responds in a timely manner to students, staff, corporate, and external contacts regarding complaints and/or inquiries 10. Promotes a positive office environment with professional appearance and well trained staff 11. Plans and ensures delivery of new student activities 12. Established and communicates accountabilities and performance expectations for all direct report 13. Ensures that direct reports have also establish and communicate accountabilities and performance expectations for all of their direct reports 14. Conducts all performance evaluations in a timely manner 15. Identifies needs and promotes both in-house and off-site training for direct reports to foster their professional development and growth 16. Maintain a solid understanding of all company policies including company EEO objectives and select staff accordingly without sacrificing the integrity or quality of the selection and hiring process 17. Establishes standards and serves as a role model for department and other employees for attendance and professional attire and appearance 18. Evaluates staffing levels, responsibility distribution, and organizational structure with respect to the number of potential recruits and marketing activity at least on an annual basis 19. Establishes periodic progress reports to assure results are monitored and corrective action applied to maintain acceptable results 20. Prepares and presents to the Executive Director a term review report comparing actual results to plans at the conclusion of each term, with objectives identified for the next term 21. Participates in management team meetings to stay aware of the activities of other departments and campus initiatives 22. Shares meeting note of own department meetings with other department heads to maintain awareness of actions and planned activities. 23. Participates in campus’ annual operating plan and reports and identifies areas where cross-departmental assistance e is necessary or appropriate 24. Assures departmental representation as appropriate on campus task forces and teams 25. Participates in Alta Colleges system wide meetings as directed to gather information and provide perspective to issues and plans of a national nature 26. Actively seeks ways to provide assistance to other departments in achieving operating objectives not necessarily under direct control or accountability 27. Identifies ways other departments may assist in meeting accrediting agency accoutnibilities and solicit support to gain assistance 28. Promotes a positive image and attitude in department staff toward operating objectives established by Alta Colleges and other departments, including positive attitude toward all company employees. 29. Prepares a variety of reports including but not limited to crime stats, student right to know, and drop analysis. 30. Conducts and analyzes multiple student surveys. 31. Plans, prepares annual budget. Maintains and adheres to approved budget throughout the year. Makes recommendations on annual budgetary needs. JOB QUALIFICATIONS 1. Bachelors Degree 2. 5 years management experience 3. 2 Years previous experience working in an educational customer service environment working with high school, adult student populations and/or low income persons. 4. Counseling background desirable 5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills 6. Proficient user of PC and Microsoft Office applications, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook 7. Must be comfortable using dual databases and tracking student attendance and progress 8. Must be comfortable with e-mail communication and do so in a professional manner PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Standing 2. Walking 3. Sitting 4. Carrying – up to 50 pounds 5. Normal vision/talking/speaking
