GENERAL INFORMATION
· There is currently one permanent, full-time position available with the Office of Educational Improvement & Innovation (EII) at the Oregon Department of Education in Salem.
· The EII office is responsible for school improvement efforts statewide, and provides for the development and implementation of Common Curriculum Goals, content standards, Career Learning Frameworks, and supporting materials as well as program evaluation as directed by the State Board of Education.
· This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified people, and may be used to fill vacancies as they occur.
· Applicants will be subject to a thorough background investigation including driving record. Adverse background data may be grounds for immediate disqualification.
· Applicants will be subject to a Computerized Criminal History check. Conviction of a crime will not automatically preclude an appointment. The circumstances involved in the conviction will be considered.
· This position is represented by Service Employees International Union (SEIU).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position researches instructional strategies shown to be effective with Talented and Gifted (TAG) students and work with districts to implement effective instructional strategies. Major duties include:
· Plan for statewide focus and implementation of TAG education in collaboration with TAG regional centers.
· Create, manage and maintain a plan for TAG education.
· Professional technical support to school districts in the implementation of TAG Oregon Revised Statutes and Oregon Administrative Rules.
· Manage parent, student, teacher, school and school district questions about TAG services and best practices.
· Manage formal complaints from parents about school district compliance.
· Create, update and distribute resources and materials for teachers and district administrators.
· Provide technical assistance to Oregon Department of Education counsel in agency TAG litigation.
· Develop, coordinate and deliver professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators.
· Collaborate with TAG regional centers in planning professional development for TAG education.
· Collect, analyze and report data on TAG students.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires a flexible work schedule which involves stateside travel, some overnight, and some evening and weekend work. You must possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record or be able to provide an acceptable alternate method of transportation. TO QUALIFY

· Master’s degree in Education or related field from an accredited college or university and five years of education experience in the specialty area under recruitment (e.g., classroom teacher, counselor, itinerant service provider), two years of which includes leadership experience (e.g., lead teacher, program coordinator or director, school administrator) in the specialty area under recruitment.
A Doctorate in Education or related field from an accredited university may substitute for two years of the education experience, but not for the two years of leadership experience.
An Oregon Standard Administrative License (issued by Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission) may substitute for the two years of leadership experience. Submit a copy of your license with your application to receive credit.
All applicants must submit a photocopy of all related transcripts to receive credit. Transcript must include applicant’s name, coursework completed, and indicated that a degree was conferred.

a) teaching strategies you have found most successful in providing differentiated instruction for a diverse population of gifted and talented student,.
b) providing professional development to educators on gifted and talented education for a variety of audiences.
