Job Summary: Drawing on a broad range of technical and multimedia skills, the Educational Technology Specialist assists in the creation, delivery, and maintenance of KCDL online courses. 

 

The Educational Technology Specialist develops interactive tutorials, quizzes, and multimedia activities – primarily in Flash - following standard templates and based on content specifications provided by subject matter experts.  Builds and maintains courses and assignments in Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard. Prepares assessments in test authoring software for publication to LMS’s.  Assists as needed in course setup and production using KCDL’s course authoring / content management system.  Prepares and optimizes graphic files for web delivery.  Edits and processes digital audio and video files as needed.  Edits existing courses in html as needed. 

 

Job Responsibilities: Integrate multimedia content into interactive Flash activities and presentations.Develop KCDL courses in Blackboard and other LMS’s, according to KCDL course design and format guidelines Prepare assessments in test authoring software (e.g. Respondus) for publication to the various LMS’s. Edit existing course content and assessments as needed in LMS’s and in html.Ensure that graphics and animations are optimized for delivery over the web. Prepare course materials as needed for other delivery methods - i.e., print versions of courses for KCDL's correspondence school program Follow KCDL course design, format, quality, and version control guidelines. 

 

Other Activities:

· Provide assistance to Curriculum Development department, LMS Development Lead, and Course Delivery Manager as required.

 

Adaptability Requirements:

 

High-Position requires a high degree of adaptability.  Incumbent will be faced with a variety of issues on a day-to-day basis and will be expected to respond to these issues appropriately.

 

Working Conditions:

Minimal Travel

Office environment

40hr work week (normally); exceptions may occur as situations require.

 

Experience and Education:

· Bachelor's Degree in Educational Technology, Multimedia, Computer Science, or similar preferred.

· Experience working with Learning Management Systems strongly preferred

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  Proficiency in Flash and ActionScriptProficiency writing standards-compliant, cross-browser friendly html, css, and JavaScriptExperience preparing web graphics in Photoshop.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining high levels of quality and productivity Ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally



Preferred:Advanced ActionScript skills, including the ability to program dynamic, xml-driven applications and templates in Flash Experience using Respondus to create assessmentsKnowledge of the capabilities and limitations of a variety of Learning Management systems – Blackboard, eCollege, Moodle, etc.Knowledge of web accessibility issuesAdvanced knowledge of document creation with Adobe Acrobat. Experience with video editing and video compression / streamingExperience with digital audio editing tools and audio compression options to optimize filesize while retaining sound quality.3D character modeling and 3D animation experienceXML experience
