The Executive Director for the Office of Minority Educational Affairs reports to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and provides leadership of and support for Cornell programs that promote the academic success, social well-being and graduation of minority and disadvantaged students.

The Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the OMEAand the oversight of the State Programs office, which administers HEOP/EOP programs.

The Executive Director will collaborate with staff and faculty in the undergraduate colleges, with student activities and residential life program offices and with university administrators, to develop programming that furthers the academic success of minority and disadvantaged students. This programming may include lectures and symposia involving national experts in the field that are aimed at faculty, staff and students, as well as workshops and seminars designed to further the development of students' academic skills and preparation for careers, or graduate and professional schools. The Executive Director may choose to convene regular meetings of campus personnel who provide special services to minority or disadvantaged students at Cornell. Many of the relevant personnel are part of the Committee on Special Educational Projects (COSEP).

Most important, currently, are the Diversity Council Working Group, West Campus Council, President's Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs, Executive Committee of the Cornell Alumni Student Mentoring Program, the Learning Strategies Center Advisory Board and the Bias Response Team. These memberships allow the Executive Director to participate in discussions defining the mission of minority education and to contribute to the formation of policies concerning recruitment, admission, and retention of minority undergraduates.

The Executive Director is a co-director for the Pre-Freshman Summer Program. The term for this responsibility will begin in September 2008.
