Executive Director of Organizational Development
The College Board, a national educational organization, is conducting a search for a dynamic, hands-on Executive Director of Organizational Development who will be responsible for the research, design, development and implementation of organization-wide, departmental and individual programs that maximize the effectiveness and potential of the internal workforce in support of the mission, vision, culture, values, and strategic priorities of the organization.
The focus of this Executive Director's role is on the development and execution of talent management, career development, succession planning, training, mentoring, and job rotation and/or growth programs. This will be accomplished through:Strategic vision and goal development; Needs assessment and diagnosis; Role and responsibility clarification; Leadership and team development; Coaching; and Design and implementation of programs, processes and systems to improve individual and team performance and support organizational development initiatives.
In this role, the Executive Director will collaborate closely with senior leadership, the Organizational Effectiveness team, management, and more than 1,100 staff to ensure alignment and integration of strategies, projects and programs for successful implementation and results.
Responsibilities: Partners with Vice President and Executive Director of Organizational Effectiveness to provide overall leadership and management to staff including establishing and providing guidance on unit objectives and goals. Assesses and monitors the effectiveness of all development and training initiatives against predefined metrics.Identifies short- and long-term skill gaps and develops and implements programs to close those gaps and accelerate skill development. Designs, delivers, sponsors and/or manages a variety of learning and development initiatives which may include leadership development, supervisory and management development programs, mentoring programs, sales and service training, product training, financial and technical training. Enhances and manages the organization’s performance management process, including process design, development, communication, and training. Ensures that the program drives a culture of high performance and meaningful feedback and dialogue among management and staff, while providing effective technology and tools to support the process. Programs may include annual performance reviews and 360 reviews for some staff. Participates in the development of competency models to be used throughout the organization for selection, assessment, training, development and succession planning. Assists, supports, and monitors identification and development of internal talent and succession candidates toward goal of developing “ready-now” candidates for all key positions. Develop high potential and successor candidates to meet future talent requirements. Identifies leadership needs, and effective training or workshop interventions to maximize leadership effectiveness, including external executive coaches when appropriate. Consults with department managers to assist with organizational design and facilitate team development in collaboration with Organizational Effectiveness team.Manages internal processes including budget preparation and monitoring and identification and management of appropriate vendors as needed. Guides the development and implementation of organizational development technology solutions including the Learning Management System.
Requirements:Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Management, Organizational Development, or related area required. Master's degree in Organizational Development or related area preferred. Eight to ten years of experience in recent full-time positions that include human resources and organizational development roles.Must have experience and expertise in most, if not all, of the following areas: talent management, leadership development, performance management, training and development, succession planning and organization planning.At least 5 years of experience in a management capacity that includes staff supervision. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and methods of managing organizational change. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with, and earn the credibility of, all levels of the organization including senior management. Excellent facilitation and public speaking skills. Strong interest in working for a mission-driven organization.
