The Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM) is seeking a highly motivated individual to help coordinate the daily animal care operations of the Institute for Animal Studies. The Institute for Animal Studies animal care program totals approximately 50,000 net sq. ft. over four facilities including the newly opened CGTM (the Michael F. Price Center for Genetic and Translational Medicine in the Harold and Muriel Block Research Pavilion). Together these facilities will house over 60,000 research animals, mostly rodents. The program facilities include clean/barrier rodent housing areas, conventional rodent housing areas, rodent quarantine, ABSL-3 facilities, as well as housing for a variety of non-rodent species.

 

The Facility Supervisor, under the direction of the Facilities Manager, will oversee 15 or more Animal Caretaker staff in one of 4 facilities on a daily basis and will assist the Facility Manager in all matters related to animal husbandry operations of the Institute.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

* Daily assignment of work to animal caretakers and prioritization of work and assessment of productivity;

* Initial and ongoing training of caretakers in routine and specialized animal husbandry tasks;

* Advising the Manager in the selection, hiring, counseling, and discipline of caretakers;

* Materials management-ensuring that all materials needed for animal care are adequately supplied and advising the Facility Manager of needs for additional materials;

* Equipment maintenance-ensuring that all equipment is adequately maintained and operational;

* Facility maintenance-ensuring that all animal space is operational and in good repair;

* Assuming the duties of Manager in his/her absence.

 

Candidates must have LATg certification, a degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary technical program or a Bachelor’s degree and/or relevant work experience in animal science in a supervisory capacity. Candidate should have excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, and experience interacting with animal caretakers and knowledge of research and animal facility practices.
