Duties And Responsibilities:

The Faculty/Staff Assistant reports to the Senior Faculty Member. The incumbent provides general support for Endowed Professor and Senior Advisor of a large multi-faceted research project. This position serves as the principal contact and liaison between high profile professor and many constituents. S/he independently answers large volume of written, phone and electronic inquiries from students, researchers, parents, school officials, members of the press, and many others. Drafts letters and other brief documents. S/he is responsible for all publications support, including draft management for books (average: 1 per year) articles (average: 20 per year) and interview transcripts; related publishing logistics and record-keeping, including third-party permissions and CV and file management. Manages professor's calendar, daily correspondence, including proofreading mail and memos, and associated tasks. Manages extensive and complex filing system of correspondence, grants information, student/staff records, and publishing and book-related files. Performs library/web research and material retrieval for professor.

This is a term position with an end date of 6/30/3009 with a strong likelihood of continuation. S/he oversees work of occasional student and/or casual staff. With other assistant, staffs phones and serves as gatekeeper for very high-paced, often confidential office. As with all positions within Project Zero, this position includes 5% time for Project Zero citizenship tasks.

Required Education, Experience and Skills:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: College degree or 2+ years related experience supporting faculty or senior level executive. Experience working with sensitive/confidential information is required as well as strong computer skills that include Word, Excel, Palm OS and Power Point.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Proven interpersonal skills with experience providing complex administrative support in a high-profile environment with tact and diplomacy. The ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a fast-paced office with minimal supervision is required. Fluency and ease in writing and editing. High level of accuracy is essential. Previous experience working in higher education and with highly confidential communications surrounding research subjects, funders, employees and students.
