Geographic Information System (Junior Specialist--Tenure Track)

Duties: Apply GIS technologies and provide spatial database management to support research and outreach activities relating to family well-being: (1) review, acquire, and process maps, aerial imagery and photographs; (2) maintain and manage spatial and tabular data databases and SDE servers; (3) design and implement geo-coding applications dealing with large scale street address databases; (4) analyze geo data and produce maps and summary information; (5) develop spatial measures using geo-statistics; and (6) develop and maintain data storage and retrieval mechanisms for dynamic and interactive mapping web applications. Serve as a liaison with community partners. Teach courses, workshops and/or seminars. Provide service to the University and community.

 

Minimum qualifications: Master’s degree in geography, ecology, urban planning, natural science, information and computer sciences, or related field. At least one year of work experience in processing, analyzing and presenting GIS datasets. Demonstrated skills in (1) using Microsoft Office Professional; (2) geo-coding, (3) developing hardcopy and online map products; (4) working with relational databases; and (5) acquiring and managing spatial databases. Knowledge of basic geographical and general statistics. Working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS 9.0 or above, AutoDesk MAP 3D, SDE, IMS and graphic applications. Ability to collaborate effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated familiarity with GIS data and resources. Strong documentation and communication skills.

 

Desirable qualifications: Professional certification in GIS and SQL database programming and/or administration. Familiarity with GIS data and resources for the State of Hawaii. Experience with (1) statistical packages, (2) MapObject programming, and (3) system analysis or software development. Skills in website development.
