Brief Description:

(CONTINGENT ON FUNDING) The initial assignment will be at MOORPARK COLLEGE. All academic employees are subject to assignment in any college of the District depending upon staffing needs as defined within the terms of the VCCCD/AFT Agreement. Nontraditional assignments such as evening, weekend, or off-site assignments may be made with consent of faculty member, management or when special conditions exist on a campus as defined within the terms of the VCCCD/AFT agreement.




The District seeks candidates exhibiting: Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students; A commitment to the philosophy and objectives of the community college; Sensitivity to various learning styles; Strong teaching and interpersonal skills; Enthusiasm for maintaining currency in the discipline; be able to use computers and other types of technology in instruction and have experience with or interest in online instruction; Excellent oral and written communication skills.




SALARY AND EXPERIENCE

Salary is commensurate with academic preparation and experience in placement on the District salary schedule. Contract is based on a 10 month year to begin with the fall semester 2008. Fringe benefits include family medical, dental and vision insurance plans. Maximum credit for prior experience is 7 years.  




Job Duties:

To teach a full range of community college courses in: Health Information Management/Training, medical coding, HIM computer applications and related health science courses. To promote, monitor, and maintain degree and certificate programs in subject areas. Assist with application and maintenance of accreditation.




To carry out other duties associated with full-time general faculty responsibilities, such as maintaining office hours, participating in program planning, and college wide initiatives; and participating in the governance of the college through program, department, division, college activities and committee assignments.




The successful candidate shall adhere to the college mission statement; be the subject and resource program builder in his/her primary areas, demonstrate strong teaching leadership skills; have background and current knowledge in the field of Health Information Management; use computers and other types of technology in instruction and have experience with online instruction.  




Minimum Qualifications

Any bachelor's degree and two years of experience, or any associate degree and six years of experience OR the equivalent or possession of an appropriate California Community College credential.

All course work must be from a regionally accredited college or university.

Candidates not possessing the minimum qualifications as stated above, must complete the supplemental questionnaire and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above.  




Preferred Qualifications:

Master's in health information, health science, or health education.  




Licenses or other Requirements:

Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)

1. Completion (or expected completion prior to effective date of employment) of a particular degree without possession of the degree;

2. Completion of appropriate course work for a degree related to the identified degrees listed on the announcement;

3. Demonstrated expertise and command of the subject, related general education or appropriate skills;

4. Eminence or recognized achievement or excellence in the field or occupation.

Salary Range:

$43,408 - $91,156

Starting Salary:

$43,408 - $75,963

New employees may request salary placement above step one based on directly related experience which exceeds the minimum qualifications for the classification. Advanced salary placement must be requested at the time of offer and is subject to verification of qualifying experience and applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements and/or Personnel Commission Rules.
