Human Resources – Director
Responsible for the oversight of transactional functions of the Human Resources Department. This may include one or more of the following areas: recruiting, talent management initiatives, salary and compensation, benefits, employee relations with emphasis on legal and policy compliance, and employee communication. Some focus will also be paid to more strategic initiatives which may include areas such as organizational development, training and development, and providing input to policy creation and/or modification. Additionally, may also be responsible for ensuring the completion of the payroll process. Incumbent must assure that the EDMC HR guiding principles are adhered to in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position. These include having a focused and disciplined approach with an eye toward compliance with HR policies, regulations, laws and other EDMC procedures, driving for results, delivering excellent customer service, emphasizing communication, recognition, teamwork and collaboration, seeking ways to support and develop standardized processes and common procedures, and an unwavering attention to growth and development in self and internal clients.
Key Job Elements:
1. Drive the recruitment process of candidates to fill vacancies. This includes ensuring job requisitions are posted, reviewing incoming resumes and applications of various formats, prescreening potential candidates, scheduling interviews, and extending offers of employment.
2. Oversee the execution of the talent management initiatives of corporate headquarters and school to include the areas of:
--On-Boarding
--Orientation
--Training
--Performance review planning and execution
--Succession and leadership planning
3. Handle and resolve employee relations issues that may develop as well as ensure that legal and policy matters on those issues are sound.
4. Oversee the administration of salary, compensation, staffing, training and benefits program. This includes monitoring existing and new hire employees’ salaries and compensation for compliance with corporate policies as well as entering new employee benefit elections, running monthly benefits, staffing, turnover and other reports, reconciling and submitting changes to benefits carriers.
5. Verify the information in the employee communications portal. May be responsible for providing input to keep all information up to date.
6. Oversight of special projects and/or events such as training programs, annual benefits enrollment, employee recognition, etc. as needed.
7. Other Duties as assigned.
Job Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
1. Knowledge:
a) Bachelor’s degree in Business or Industrial Relations required with a Master’s degree preferred
b) Five to seven years experience in Human Resources or related field preferably in a post secondary education environment or other field with large employee base and strong external customer service requirements (e.g., health care, retail, financial or mortgage services, etc.).
c) At least one year of previous payroll experience.
d) PHR/SPHR certification preferred.
2. Skills:
a) Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
b) Strong interpersonal skills with both faculty and staff populations.
c) Superior organization, prioritization, and self-motivation skills.
d) Strong computer literacy skills with the MS Office suite as well as HRIS applications.
3. Abilities:
a) Ability to interact effectively as either a leader or as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments.
b) Ability to listen to customers (e.g. staff, etc.) and to understand and respond positively to their requests.
c) Ability to work without close supervision and to set one’s own priorities.
d) Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines.
