Human Resources Manager
Basic Function:
The Human Resources Manager performs diversified duties requiring a thorough knowledge of Human Resources procedures and functions as well as awareness of University and School of Law policies and applicable Federal and State regulations. The HR Manager reports directly to the Director of Human Resources.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities (in order of importance):
Manages recruitment effort for exempt, non-exempt, administrator, and temporary employees; partners with hiring managers and facilitates strategy meetings to develop and implement appropriate recruiting strategies.
Handles human resource and employee relations issues on a day-to-day basis for specific departments on campus, and obtains legal advice through corporate labor employment attorneys as appropriate.
Serves as a resource and central contact for HR policy/procedure clarification, and provides input to and updates the Staff Handbook as appropriate.
Coaches managers on appropriate handling of employee performance issues, legal guidelines, effective problem solving, corrective action and dispute resolution, and steps to maintain a positive work environment to promote a fair and equitable environment in which all employees feel supported and enabled to contribute to the organization.
Responsible for employee orientation, development and training. Ensures that new employees receive policies and procedures, complete all necessary paperwork, and gain an understanding of the benefit plans and enrollment provisions.
Responsible for the management and maintenance of the Human Resources database and ensures the maintenance of personnel files and records; prepares reports as necessary.
Maintains current and complete understanding of all Federal and State Human Resources related laws, including: EEO, human rights, release of employment information, Pregnancy Disability Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, ADA, Family Rights Act, and any other applicable laws and regulations.
Supports Director of Human Resources in achieving department goals, with an emphasis on customer service and positive employee relations. In addition, the incumbent assumes the responsibility of the Human Resources department in the absence of the Director.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, communications or related field. Master’s degree in related field, and/or SPHR or PHR certificates preferred Demonstrated progression in career path within the Human Resources field, with roles consisting of increasing responsibility and authority, and at least two years in a position which demonstrated significant decision making authority and oversight; direct supervisory experience is a plus Exceptional verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills required Strong analytic and strategic skills in prioritization, resource allocation, and decision-making Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential matters Perform detailed work with accuracy and efficiency Understand, interpret and apply complex policies, procedures and regulations Work effectively under deadlines Perform independent research in carrying out administrative and technical duties Handle multiple project assignments and determine proper course of action with little or no supervision Demonstrated ability to develop and establish strategic internal and external relationships Consistent and excellent collaboration and negotiation skills working with the faculty, staff, administration, students, and the community Candidates must have high intermediate proficiency skills in MS Office and experience with HRIS, Banner, applicant tracking databases, or other database program desirable
