IT Help Desk/IT Assistant

Position Title: IT Help Desk

 

Reports to: Director of IT

 

FSLA Status: Exempt

 

 

Essential Responsibilities:  

 

Helpdesk which includes support for office users and students who are having trouble with online accounts, registration, email, or any of the other resources SMU provides for them. That support may be offered via email, telephone or instant messaging. Assists the Director of IT with the day to day management of SMU network and information services. Also assists in resolving various hardware issues that may arise in the office. The IT Assistant is responsible for maintaining hardware upgrades and software licensing as deemed necessary by the IT Director.

 

Requirements: The IT Assistant is expected to have experience with computer and network hardware and software on Windows and Linux platforms. Programming experience as well as Unix/Linux and other open-source software experience is helpful as well. He or she should have good communication skills. A willingness to take on many challenges and to continually learn is essential. Finally, the IT Assistant/Help Desk should understand that the main role of IT is to help others do their job better, more efficiently, and more securely.

 Strong analytical skills, paying attention to details Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal Ability to prioritize duties and complete within given deadlines Advanced knowledge of computer software applications Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and conflicting demandsDemonstrative effective use of critical thinking skillsDemonstrate ability to work independently
