PURPOSE:

The Instructional Technology Group (ITG) at Yale University provides support for technology-enhanced instruction in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.

As part of the ITG, in collaboration with other ITS units, the University Library, the Center for Language Study, The Graduate Teaching Center and others, work with faculty and students to integrate digital technologies into curricular and scholarly activities. Under the general direction of the Manager of the ITG, provide leadership in the design, implementation, support and assessment of technology-enhanced instruction.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

· Consult with faculty members to identify the pedagogical objectives appropriately met by instructional activities supported by technology. Design, develop, implement, and assess instructional activities supported by technology.

· Maintain an advanced working fluency with a broad range of both web and classroom-based scholarly technologies. Track, investigate and bring to production, as appropriate, emerging technologies relevant to instruction.

· Collaborate closely with the University Library in particular, and other academic support units in general, to enrich programmatic and project-based activities in support of technology-enhanced teaching; provide high-quality technical project management as needed.

· Create, promote and coordinate demonstrations of instructional applications of technologies, through media, outreach, workshops and consultations. Develop documentation, tutorials and guidelines for best practices. Enthusiastically promote the implementation of instructional technology best practices and innovations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s Degree in the sciences, humanities, Library Sciences, or Engineering and three years experience in a technically focused academic support environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Preferred: Advanced degree in an academic discipline.

· Demonstrated experience in using, developing and supporting web-based course materials, either as an instructor or a support person in a higher education setting.

· Participatory experience with a broad range of social-software and web 2.0-based technologies such as blogs, wikis and podcasts.

· Expertise in web authoring and multimedia production applications such as Adobe’s Creative Suite, Apple’s iLife software and QuickTime.

· Basic, comprehensive understanding of learning theories, principles and practices.

· Enthusiasm for and experience in developing applications and technical innovations in teaching; demonstrated ability and interest in tracking, learning and applying emerging technologies. Forward-thinking attitude towards educational technologies.

· Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

· Service-minded, self-motivated and ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams with flexible and changing assignments.

· Preferred: Experience managing academic technology projects.
