Instructional Designer

Queens College’s Department of Computer Science is seeking an Instructional Designer to work with faculty, staff, and administration to assist them in using technology for effective teaching. The position requires an energetic, highly skilled, motivated team player to successfully lead innovative projects that blend information technology resources with effective pedagogical strategies in a liberal arts environment. Duties include:
• Working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and the administration in developing instructional uses of technology;
• Identifying, analyzing, and evaluating new technologies for potential applications in instruction, and making appropriate recommendations;
• Promoting the implementation of technological innovations services, resources, and activities;
• Creating demonstrations of instructional applications of technologies;
• Planning, coordinating, and conducting special topics workshops in the use of technologies in instruction for faculty and staff as well as at relevant conferences;
• Assisting faculty in assessing the outcomes of using specific technologies to support learning;
• Coordinating with the Center for Teaching & Learning, the divisional technologists, and the Office of Converging Technologies; and
• Arranging/scheduling new technology demonstrations/workshops by vendors.

Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design and a minimum of 4 years experience required; master's degree with at least 2 years significant experience in the field preferred. Experience with Blackboard or a similar course management system preferred. Knowledge of HTML, Flash, Streaming Media, and similar Web-based tools is a plus. Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to interact with and support a diverse range of clients are essential.
