Language Teacher for Young Children - Spanish, French, Mandarin

Wonders – Children Learning Language, located in Encinitas, CA, is seeking enthusiastic, dedicated, creative, and nurturing Spanish, French, and mainland Mandarin Chinese language teachers/instructors for our classes for young children. Qualifications: Applicants must be native or fluent speakers of French, Spanish, or mainland Mandarin Chinese.
Applicants should have a U.S. Bachelor degree or its equivalent, ideally in a related field -- although the ability to relate to children is more important than the degree field.

 

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills: Native or fluent speaker of the foreign language, with a working knowledge of EnglishTraining or experience working and being with young childrenPrior teaching experience desired but not requiredAbility to keep the attention of young children for an hour Ability to establish quick rapport with children in a fun, upbeat, but educational environmentInterest in learning new ways of teaching foreign language to childrenWilling to evaluate existing curriculum and contribute improvementsAble to work well with parents, including managing expectations and being reassuringAble to organize time and activities to manage classes effectively  Able to keep information confidentialAble to commit to at least 12 months of employment, because of the time spent on trainingAble to pass a fingerprint check and TB test


Duties include: Participating in a paid teacher-training program to learn our unique curriculu. Training includes class observations, workshops, practice classes, and co-teaching.Participating in follow-up meetings, trainings and observations.Teaching from 4 to 15 hours per week during the school year, starting in late August, and during our summer camp if desired (We want the best and happiest instructors! So the number of classes you teach each session can depend on your availability.)
We are looking for at least a year commitment, because of the in-depth training process. Actively participate in curriculum development, including some paid time to generate additional fun and creative activities and props to accompany our stories and activities. Represent Wonders to enrolled parents: be available and prepared for questions, understand who we are and what we do, stay on top of new developments and programs. Be willing to do a limited amount of marketing and outreach to the community. (We offer incentives for successful referrals.)
