Loan Education Counselor

Description:Purpose of the Job/Principal Responsibilities:The primary function of the Loan Education Counselor is to assist KHE Campuses lower total student-loan defaults by averting delinquent student loan accounts. The counselor will be responsible for counseling student loan borrowers on how to resolve delinquent accounts and to ensure future timely payments. The counselor will review the borrowers loan status, discuss options available for the borrower to resolve the account, and work with the necessary loan servicers. Default aversion methods include counseling borrowers in regards to deferments, forbearances, and further repayment options. Good judgment and assertiveness must be used to help student borrowers find the appropriate solution.The counselor will be responsible for incoming and outgoing calls, letters, forms, and follow up. The counselor will also be responsible to verify and update borrower demographics with the system of record, skip-tracing, and maintaining contact with the necessary student loan service providers. Typical activities for the Loan Education Counselor will be:- Contact borrowers to discuss the status of their accounts and to advise the borrowers of their responsibilities and repayment options. - Provide adequate telephone coverage during assigned hours and answering inbound calls from students. This includes answering questions regarding student loans, including repayment, delinquency, and default.- Counseling borrowers regarding repayment options to include deferment, forbearance, and consolidation.- Letter campaigns utilizing mail merge to delinquent borrowers.- Review accounts to ensure the accuracy of information, act as a liaison between the borrower and the service provider, and ensure that all requirements are met.- Check the accuracy of draft cohort default rates.- Conduct entrance and exit counseling sessions with student borrowers over the phone.- Import and review monthly servicer reports. - Update the internal Campus Vue system documenting all contact with each borrower.- Complete other duties, as assigned.Measurement of Success:KHE Loan Education Counselors will be evaluated based on (a) ability to meet accuracy and productivity goals; (b) ability to deliver outstanding customer service; (c) ability to work effectively on a team, both within and across KHE departments; and (d) attitude and enthusiasm.Qualifications:Experience Required:- Associates degree or equivalency and 2+ years exp. in Financial Aid or Bachelors Degree and equivalent applicable work experience- Strong Analytical and Critical Thinking SkillsPosition Requirements /Scope of the Job/ Skills Required:- Must be able to work some evening and weekend shifts as necessary- Attention to detail- Ability to interact in a professional manner with customers and co-workers- Excellent customer service skills- Strong oral and written communication skillsSalary/Benefits: Salary commensurate with experienceBenefits available for those who qualify: - Immediate health and dental plans- Sick days, holidays, and vacation days- 401(k) Plan- Flexible Spending Account- Life and Business Travel Accident Insurance - Long-term Disability- Group Legal Services- Financial Planning EOEJob Location: Alpharetta, GAJob Number: 6317BRCompany URL: http://www.khec.comCompany Profile:Kaplan Higher Education (www.khec.com), is a division of Kaplan, Inc (www.kaplan.com), and The Washington Post Company (NYSE: WPO).
