Major Gifts Officer

Queens College’s Office of Institutional Advancement seeks a Major Gifts Officer, who will report to the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement and function as an active participant in a team of professionals devoted to external contacts with donor prospects, aimed at securing significant resources to further the mission of Queens College. The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for a broad menu of duties aimed at making the process of securing major gifts more efficient, seamless, and successful. Specific duties will include—but are not limited to—the following:
• Ensuring success through consistent, strategic solicitation of major gift prospects so that the college realizes its fundraising goals;
• Targeting a list of individual major gift prospects (75–125) to be approached each year for gifts of  $20,000 or more; and making 40–60 gift requests annually;
• Managing record-keeping and reporting to both internal and external concerns, ensuring that the flow o all information (e.g. reports, proposals, letters, follow-up packets, materials for prospects, etc.) is  handled efficiently and smoothly among the members of the Advancement team;
• Participating as an active member of the prospect management process in the development and     coordination of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies for all major gift/individual  prospects;
• Working aggressively to streamline the major gift process and build effective partnerships with       Advancement colleagues responsible for data operations, research, and annual giving;
• Taking primary responsibility for all behind-the-scenes activities related to the successful solicitation and closure of major gifts; the Major Gifts Officer will take direction from all the members of the     Advancement team and work to shrink the timelines associated with the major gift process. Bachelor’s degree with 6 years of development experience, preferably in higher education, required (master’s degree preferred and can substitute for up to 2 years of the relevant experience). A thorough knowledge of development practices and principles and record-keeping is essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and peers in the Advancement area and with internal partners and external. Must have experience working with volunteers and in prospect; excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills; and flexibility to travel.
