Mechanic I
The Rockefeller University, a world-renowned center for research and graduate education in the biomedical sciences, seeks a Mechanic I to join Plant Operations. The successful candidate will provide journeyman level skills in the installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of plumbing systems. Will be responsible for the prompt performance of assigned plumbing and related duties. Will install, repair, and maintain water, air, gas, vacuum, and sewer lines, install plumbing pipes, traps, fittings, drains, special laboratory sinks and water closets, snake clogged lines when needed, read and interpret blueprints, and give detailed instructions to helpers assisting in the task at hand. High School, trade school diploma or equivalent and minimum of 3 years of related experience required; educational emphasis in plumbing preferred. Must be responsible and prompt in the performance of assigned plumbing and related duties, able to work with torches for the purpose of soldering and brazing, copper and bass pipes, and able to cut and thread black steel pipe. Must be able to move, push, pull, or lift equipment, materials, and tools weighing more than 50 lbs., climb extension ladders, work overhead, and balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and move within confined areas including crawl and attic spaces. Must be able to sustain considerable physical effort at frequent intervals, work both inside and outside, and operate power tools and equipment.
